POVERTY
Whenever we hit the road, there are many things about which we get impressed. The most beautiful house in the world, spicy food, elegant dresses, and many other irresistible things in the world entice us to acquire them. We struggle to obtain things that look beautiful in our eyes. Sometimes, we gradually become depressed because we didn’t get what we wanted. And now, my question is, have you ever felt gratitude for what you have? Or have you ever thanked God for giving you the best assets to live with? If not, just take a minute to thank the Heavenly Father for all the things that he has bestowed upon you. Why, because
- Around 829 million people are still hungry.
- 2.2 billion children in the world and 1 billion of them live in poverty.
- Around 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.
The world’s hunger is getting ridiculous. There’s more fruit in a rich man’s shampoo than on a poor man’s plate.
The above quoted quote is undeniable. There is more than enough food produced in the world to feed everyone on the planet. But still the world remains in hunger and poverty. How? This is due to the exploitation done by the government and private officials. These officials work for the benefit of themselves. The poor literally do not have access to basic benefits. Because of this unfair activity, most poor people are still living in poverty and dying each day without good nutrition. The officials who are responsible for stretching out their hands to help the poor people have become a grabbing hand. The following statistics show that:
- Approximately, 790 million people in developing countries, two thirds of whom live in Asia and the Pacific suffer from from chronic undernourishment.
- Five countries house three-fifths of the world’s extreme poor: Bangladesh, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, India and Nigeria.
- About 30 percent of the world’s extremely poor live in India.
The above-mentioned Indian poverty statistics reminded me of a passage I read in a best-selling author Shiv Khera’s book “Freedom is Not Free.” He quoted that:
India has more natural resources than Japan, Taiwan or Singapore and many other countries. But they are a lot richer and economically advanced. India probably has the highest pool of talent in English-speaking world after United States, which means that we have great potential. However, the success of the nation depend upon its potential alone, but the quality of its people and their actual performance.
These economically beneficial factors of India have been possessed by grabbing hands. so that the riches of the natural resources are not equally shared among the multitude. If this situation goes on then it is impossible to eradicate poverty from India. This is the case not only in India but for any nation.
The only way to have a better world and end poverty is by closing the gap between the top and the bottom. - Jose Andres
